Certificated Courses – an introduction

In the coming year, 2009-10, we are offering 2 Certificated courses.

All the YST CCS Courses are freestanding but they can build up to the Certificate in Christian Studies ( CCS ) from St. John’s College, Nottingham.

The Certificate in Christian Studies is a practical course in applied theology, designed to equip people in every local church for ministry and mission.

The CCS was established at St. John’s, Nottingham in 1978 with the current courses drawing on over 25 years of experience. Since 1978, over 7,000 people have completed all or part of the programme.

For many different kinds of people, the CCS has been a dependable way of developing their Christian learning and discipleship. Many have continued to serve God where they are, giving leadership to house groups, children’s and youth work, and other roles within the church. Others have deepened their faith and witness in the world, living out a more thoughtful Christianity in the complexities of today’s society. Others again have been enabled to progress to further studies, sometimes for formal ministries in the church.

The CCS offers a balanced range of study units in the three general fields of Biblical studies, doctrine and history, and practical theology.

To gain the Certificate in Christian Studies, you must normally complete all six study units. It is equivalent to one year of full-time study.

Beyond the Certificate in Christian Studies

Certificate and Diploma of Higher Education in Theology and Vocation

St. John’s, Nottingham offer these more demanding courses, validated by the Open University, for those who want to pursue a vocation to authorised ministry. The CCS will help them to work towards this.

BA Degrees in Theology

Those who have completed their CCS are able to enter direct into Level 2 of the Open Theological College ( OTC ) distance learning BA in Theology or the BA in Theology offered by St. John’s, Nottingham.
